LISA SALINE, PRESIDENT

LISA@upainc.net

Lisa serves on the National Advisory Board for the USASF and the Cheerleading Worlds / Dance Worlds Championships. She is also on the Advisory Board for American Cheerleader Magazine and the AAU Dance/Drill Board of Directors. Mrs. Saline is proud to be one of the founders of the National Council For Spirit Safety & Education (NCSSE). As a charter member, she has played an important role in the development of the program. Lisa is also a charter member of the National All-Star Coaches Congress (NACCC) and recently served as the first-ever Chairman Of The Board for the new SPIRIT INDUSTRY TRADE ASSOCIATION (SITA).

Mrs. Saline serves on numerous judging panels from state to international levels. She has developed the UPA Judge Certification Program (JCP) and requires all adjudicators to complete the program prior to judging UPA events. Lisa is the founder of the UPA AmeriCup Championship and co-coordinator of the Mexican Championship and the International Championship of the Americas in Mexico. Other events associated with and/or coordinated by UPA are the National Coach & Team Conference, the UPA Open Caribbean Competition Cruise, the All American Pro Bowl Scholarship Tour in Hawaii and the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.

She has directed the UPA All Stars at the Liberty, Car Quest, and Outback Bowl game halftime shows as well as the 1992 Superbowl half-time show. Mrs. Saline has taken the All Stars on board the Big Red Boat and Carnival Cruise Ships and to Walt Disney World. You will often find Lisa speaking throughout the country at national conferences, state association meetings or special events.

Her history with dance and cheerleading dates back over 37 years, beginning with 14 years of studio instruction. Lisa participated on competitive lines and captured many awards for group, solo and duet performances. Her senior year of high school Lisa was crowned Miss Teen of Minnesota (out of 365 contestants), a scholastic and talent recognition program. With this title she traveled around Minnesota speaking at numerous youth programs and charity events. She also spent that year as captain of her high school cheer team and was voted the MVP.

Upon graduation Lisa was selected for the first NFL Minnesota Vikings Professional Cheer Team. The 36 original Viking Cheerleaders were chosen from over 600 candidates. Lisa spent four years on the team and traveled to Sweden with the Vikings in 1989. During this time she was also coaching the St. Cloud State University Cheerleaders and led them to the NCA Collegiate Cheer Championship in Dallas, Texas where they finished sixth nationally.

Professional performance teams were always a dream of hers. In 1990 her dream came true when she made history in the National Hockey League (NHL) by developing the first-ever professional cheer/dance team, the Electric Stars, for the Minnesota North Stars. She coached the Electric Stars for four years until the team moved to Dallas. After that, she directed the Power Play Dancers, a NHL affiliate pro team. Roller hockey brought a pro team to Minnesota in 1995 and Lisa was asked to develop and coach the program, thus the Arctic Blast Dance Team was born.

Lisa graduated with a degree in Speech Communications, Public Relations and Marketing and a minor in dance from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She is celebrating her 20th year as Founder and President of United Performing Association Inc. (UPA) which she began in 1987, while in college.

Mrs. Saline is a published writer for: All-Star Cheer Magazine, American Cheerleader, Dance Spirit, InMotion, The Cheering Review, Let’s Cheer, Kickline, and Sharing the Spirit. She has also written an informative guide for coaches, The UPA Coaches Manual.
